Step #5 of the 23 Things on a Stick program is more fun with Flickr. Many of the ideas for mashups look useful for PR and marketing. Another tool that I heartily recommend for all but the most casual Flickr user is the Upload Tool. It’s a downloadable application that you must install to your computer. It is much more powerful and fast than the standard web-based upload form. Try it. You’ll be glad you did.
One of the websites highlighted on the 23 Things page is splashr. This is a very cool service that allows you to create presentations of your flickr photos. I chose to create a slideshow of photos of Kaylee, our 4 month old). All I had to do was tell splashr my username (not my password) the tag I wanted searched. All our Kaylee photos are tagged with her name so a search on “kaylee” pulls them all up. They gave me a little code to embed in my webpage and voila! Here’s an iTunes-style display of Kaylee pictures:
Or not. Wordpress (who hosts my blog) doesn’t allow all HTML code tags for security reasons. After I paste the splashr code into the entry, Wordpress strips it out. Instead, here’s a link that opens up the presentation on another page. Not as cool as having it right here but better than nothing, I guess.
